Post by Jacob –
Though I knew this day would come, with great sorrow for us but rejoicing for Nephi, I announce to all of you, the followers of Nephi’s blog, that Nephi has died.
Before dying, I have received explicit instructions to continue this blog and to see that it continues long after my passing as well. In a future blog I will share with you Nephi’s instructions to me, but for now, my heart is heavy.
As my brother Nephi began to be old, he saw that he must soon die. He therefore anointed a man to be a king and a ruler over our people. Our people loved Nephi. I cannot properly portray their great love for him. Nephi served as their King – a great protector – having wielded the sword of Laban in their defense and working his whole life for their welfare. In tribute to Nephi and to remember his name, it was decided that whoso would reign in his place would be called by Nephi’s name, rather than their own name, such as second Nephi, third Nephi and so forth. And so our new king is Second Nephi.
