Several years ago King Mosiah was warned by the Lord to flee the land of Nephi. He and those who would hearken to the Lord (that included my family) left and came here to Zarahemla. The land of Nephi was a wonderful place, with the exception of the hosts of Lamanites with whom we were continually at war.
We don’t know God’s full purposes all the time, but we know He has full knowledge and if He warns a prophet to flee and they flee, there is a good reason not to stay behind. Yet, as years passed, some of our people became resentful of having left our lands and houses and a group of people decided to return and take our lands back. They were prepared to take the lands by force. Spies were sent out to check out their forces and make this operation successful as this army prepared to destroy the Lamanites. Apparently one of these spies – a strong and mighty man by the name of Zeniff challenged the leader of this army and proposed a non-military approach to returning to the land of Nephi. The leader of this army would have none of it. He considered bloodshed the only way to regain our original lands. Well, he got bloodshed – including his own. Because when he commanded that Zeniff be killed for going against his plans, a battle among our own people ensued. When this contention within this very camp was ended, Zeniff was rescued and only 50 people were left alive.
This small band of survivors made their way back to Zarahemla. After telling our people all about this tragic turn of events, a campaign to recruit another army began. This time the army was not to take the lands by force but hoped to receive lands by treaty, that they live among the Lamanites in peace. Because this Zeniff had seen that which was good among the Lamanites, and due to his power of persuasion, his proposed adventure was a popular enough notion that he along with a considerable number, took their journey into the wilderness to return to the lands of our inheritance, even the land of Nephi.
Why this matters so much to me is the fact that I have no children, I am getting old and my brother, to whom I would pass this blog, has gone with Zeniff to the land of Nephi. None of us have heard anymore of what has happened with these people. I however am confident the Lord will inspire me as to the disposition of this blog.
