Post by Amaleki –
As I mentioned earlier, I was born in the days of King Mosiah and have lived to see his death. In this post I want to tell you about his son Benjamin who is not only our current King but he is a just man and a great spiritual leader.
Since I have no sons or other family to whom I can pass this responsibility, I have chosen to give this record to King Benjamin. If you recall, in previous posts the fact that another record is being kept by the kings has been mentioned. Obviously as king, King Benjamin has those records. That along with the knowledge I have of his being a just man before the Lord, I trust him with this blog.
In comparison to the records King Benjamin has and is keeping, this blog really only contains a small account of the prophets from Nephi down to King Benjamin. I feel comfortable he will continue to keep this blog for you. I so expect however, from here on out more of the politics and history will be presented here.
Benjamin’s reign as king has seen some very troubled political times. We’ve had somewhat of contentions among our own people. The armies of the Lamanites have come down out of the land of Nephi to battle against our people. King Benjamin gathered our armies and he did stand against them and he himself fought with the strength of his own arm using the sword of Laban – the very sword Nephi used in slaying Laban hundreds of years ago. In the strength of the Lord our armies fought against our enemies until they had killed many thousands of the Lamanites. The battles continued until the Lamanites had been driven out of all our lands.
The troubles didn’t end with physical war. The spiritual war raged as well. We have been greatly blessed because Benjamin is a holy man. He didn’t fight this spiritual war alone however. We have holy prophets among us as well. There are many holy men in our land and they speak the word of God with power and authority and they speak with sharpness because of the stiffneckedness of the people.
It’s not just a matter of some wickedness, we have had false Christs and their mouths have been shut and they were punished according to their crimes. We have had false prophets and false preachers and teachers among our people and all of these have been punished according to their crimes. These with other contentions among our people along with many dissensions away up to the Lamanites have made for a very troublesome time. Without a great and holy king such as Benjamin, our people would not have survived. I thank the Lord for His greatness and goodness.
So, with the help of the Holy Men, King Benjamin, by laboring with all the might of his body and the faculty of his whole soul, and also the prophets, did once more establish peace in the land.
