Historically, peoples and nations who either drift from truth or have not had the truth, yearn to understand man’s very existence. We as children of God seek for a connection with the divine. It’s part of our divine nature. We, therefore, in the absence of truth, create what we hope to be true. In that hope, gods of every kind are created, shaped, given alleged power, and meaning. This gives greedy men an opportunity to profit both with money and control over the hearts of man. These differences between the manufactured gods, become themselves points of division and contention.
Learning the truth about God, His characteristics, His purposes, His expectations of us and our true relationship to Him, will often require too much faith, or belief, or sacrifice than we are willing to give.
This was the case with Zeezrom today. Failing to trick me into denying God by offering me six onties, he tried to use the often-misunderstood concept of God. Many times, a people will not be satisfied with one God, or two or even three. They will create a god for each season or reason. Simply looking at the commandments given to Moses support the claim that the worship of multiple gods is not new to God’s children in the old world, or even to our people here in the promised land and especially here in Amonihah.
Failing to truly understand the nature of God, was the foundation of Zeezrom’s play to trap Alma and me.
His first ploy was to identify the multiplicity of God. In the term God, we use the title to include the three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. The three are one in purpose and are united in a single work. Yet, when we refer to the many revelations given by early prophets, we identify three individuals.
Our early prophet Jacob wrote that his people believed in Christ and worshiped the Father in Christ’s name. We also worship the Father in the name of Christ. Jacob taught his people how the sacrifice required of Abraham to offer up his son Isaac, was a similitude of the Father offering up His Only Begotten Son. Two individuals.
The prophet-and-king Benjamin taught several times about the life of Christ. He taught that the Savior of the world would be called Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Under His Father’s direction, Jesus Christ created all things. Jesus would thus be called the Father of Heaven and Earth, yet his mother would be called Mary.
Later, the prophet Abinadi said that God Himself will come down among the children of men and redeem His people. Abinadi said that He, being the Son of God, and fulfilling the will of His Father, He would be called the Father and the Son. Because He was conceived by the power of the Father and yet was subjected to the flesh, He is called the Father and the Son, the very Eternal Father of heaven and earth. Abinadi continued to teach that Christ would be crucified and slain, becoming subject to death, His will being swallowed up in the will of the Father.
As I now accompany Alma, he teaches that when the Son of God comes in glory it will also be the glory of the Father. God the Father said to Alma if we repent and harden not our hearts, He will have mercy upon us through His Only Begotten Son. We may have a remission of our sins through His Only Begotten Son.)
Let me refer to one more reference from our father Nephi, who being led to a high mountain by the spirit of the Lord where he saw in vision the future life of Jesus Christ. He made it more clear than I am able. The words Nephi continued to use in reference to Jesus Christ was The Lamb of God, refering to His great sacrifice. I quote Nephi
“And I looked and beheld the virgin again, bearing a child in her arms.
And the angel said unto me: Behold the Lamb of God, yea, even the Son of the Eternal Father!”
May I conclude repeating my witness of the Son of the very Eternal Father, which I bore to Zeezrom as I taught about the resurrection and our judgement. “Now, this restoration shall come to all, both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, both the wicked and the righteous; and even there shall not so much as a hair of their heads be lost; but every thing shall be restored to its perfect frame, as it is now, or in the body, and shall be brought and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is one Eternal God, to be judged according to their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil.
