My younger brother Heloram has shared with you a great deal about my father’s teachings from the tower and the effect it has had on our people – me included. One more thing my father felt expedient, was to have us take the names of all those who had entered into a covenant with God to keep His commandments. Its incredible that there is not one soul, except for little children, who has not entered into the covenant and have taken upon themselves the name of Christ.
Being the oldest of my father, King Benjamin, it will fall to me to succeed him as our new king. He has consecrated me to be the ruler and king over this people. He has been teaching us by word and example our whole lives and now having united our people, there should not be a better time to take charge concerning the kingdom. For him, he had to unite us and protect us by the sword before he was able to unite us spiritually. He has appointed priests to teach the people so they might hear and know the commandments of God and thereby to stir them up to remembrance of the oath which they had made.
The people are now returning, with their families, to their own houses.
So now about 476 years have passed since Lehi and Nephi and their families left Jerusalem and I Mosiah at only 30 years of age begin to reign in my father’s stead.
