I miss my dear husband Lehi. I hope to join him soon as I miss him so. My pain is so strong I sometimes wish I had perished when I was brought so near to death when my dear Nephi was so cruelly mistreated by his brothers. Yet, despite my current pain, there have been times of great joy such as the celebrations of the marriages of our children and the births of my dear grandchildren. It has also been enjoyable to watch my Lehi and sweet Nephi get so excited about the writings they would find in the plates of brass.
I do regret ever doubting Lehi’s prophetic calling, when I was certain my sons were dead. But it became clear to me that indeed my Lehi was chosen of the Lord, when my sons returned just as Lehi told me they surely would.
Yet with Nephi’s encouragement and support, I wish to share my love for my beloved husband Lehi. Lehi received many visions and dreams and with each one he tried to bring what he was taught into our lives. He was a steadfast example of courage, righteousness, and willingness to trust in the Lord. He exemplified obedience and at times repentance. If you remember when Nephi broke his bow, even my sweet Lehi experienced a brief lapse of faith. Following a true chastening by the Lord, he was brought down into the depths of sorrow. Even in this, Lehi was the perfect example as he taught us how we should respond to sin. Following the chastisement from the Lord, he humbled himself, repented and then moved on, realizing the Lord forgives.
If Nephi had tried to include all of my husband’s writings in these blog posts, you would get to know my Lehi even better. He recorded his visions and dreams and prophesies just as Nephi has. One day you may be able to read them. One of the main messages they contain however is his testimony of our Savior and Lord. Permit me please, his grieving wife, to share some of my favorite topics that he would share with me.
One of the most comforting to me is how Eve’s choice to partake of the forbidden fruit resulted in the Fall of man which resulted of course in the possibility for us to have joy. He said many times that Adam fell so that we may be and we are, so we may have joy. I remind him, it was Eve’s idea. He blessed her name too.
At the heart of my husband’s teaching about the Creation, the Fall, our Agency and our Mortal Probationary State, is his testimony that redemption is only through our Savior the Holy Messiah. Plainly, his teachings and testimony of our Savior is the result of an inspired, enlightened mind which led him to become a powerful testifier of our Christ and His gospel until the end.
I will let Nephi elaborate on Lehi’s doctrines but I loved listening to him expound about his dream of the Tree of Life, that we are all in a lost and fallen state unless we rely on Christ, how our salvation is so dependent on the merits and mercy and grace of our Savior, how we are free to choose liberty and eternal life or captivity and death and how Joseph of Egypt prophesied of a “choice seer” with his same name that would be raised up to do a great work among my descendants. It took me considerable pondering, but once I fully understood, his teaching of the necessity of opposition in all things really helped me understand and accept the role of the devil, the fall of man, our probationary state and the redemption which comes through our Savior. There are many more but I must mention his continued teaching of the scattering and gathering of the house of Israel and how this beautiful land of promise will play a part in it.
I hope you can see how much I love my dearly departed husband. I love and constantly pray for my children and my sweet grandchildren but hope my Savior calls me home soon.
