Post by Jacob –
Nephi mentioned in an earlier post that several children were born in the wilderness as the family traveled toward the sea, as well as while we were in the land called Bountiful. That would only be natural considering, as we are told, a special trip was made from the wilderness to the land Jerusalem just so a family with mostly single sons could gather up another family with mostly single daughters, so they could all get married.
I would like to say I am a result of all that marrying and therefore have lots of cousins to grow up with. But I can’t. While all that marrying was going on and all that baby borning was going on, my parents Lehi and Sariah were blessed to add two more sons to their family. I’m Jacob, the first of those two and my little brother Joseph is the second. So instead of lots of cousins, we have lots of nephews and nieces to grow up with. Now if you are a little slow at genealogy, that makes Laman, Lemuel, Nephi and Sam my older brothers, not Uncles.
But all that is not the point of this post. What I want to share is a special message my father Lehi shared with me. He told me there is a power that comes with knowing the Savior – Intrinsic power of knowing the greatness of God.
As you would expect, my two oldest brothers picked on both Joseph and I. My father says the Lord will make holy my suffereing for my blessing and gain – and that I would be redeemed, not because I am a good boy but because of the righteousness of my Redeemer. My father Lehi understood that it is not because I am like Nephi, but because Jesus is so great and magnificent.
I was told that I will dwell safely with my brother Nephi and my life will be spent in serving my Lord. Because I have beheld that in the fullness of time the Savior will come and bring salvation to men, I too will be redeemed.
My father said that since I have beheld the glory of the Lord while I am yet young, I am blessed just as those to whom He will minister in the flesh. The Spirit of the Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever and a way has been prepared from the fall of Adam for all to receive salvation. I want to go into some detail about my fathers teaching about choice and accountability. As soon as I sort it all out, I will share it with you.
