As you know, my Uncle Nephi was a very great hunter. He has been dead for many many years, but his love for hunting has also been my love for most of my life. I was very young when Nephi left this world and though I feel blessed for having shared his love for hunting, I have not shared his passion for keeping records. My father Jacob entrusted this blog into my hands many years ago and I have not added to it until now. But now I wish to share an experience with you which changed my life forever. Admittedly, it did not turn me into a scribe but it did make my life as a prophet to my people significant.
Permit me to tell you of the wrestle which I had before God, before I received a remission of my sins. I went to hunt beasts in the forests, which I had done throughout my life and the words which I had often heard my father speak concerning eternal life, and the joy of the saints, sunk deep into my heart. Because my soul hungered, I knelt down before my Maker, and I cried to Him in mighty prayer and supplication for my own soul. I am not a wicked man like my uncles Laman and Lemuel, but I have never considered myself the caliber of man as Jacob and Nephi. So I took this occasion and all the day long did I cry unto Him; yea, and when the night came I still raised my voice high that it reached the heavens.
And this is what’s important for this blog post. There came a voice unto me, saying: “Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed.” I knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away. And I said: “Lord, how is it done?” He answered me saying: “Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before He shall manifest Himself in the flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole.”
Consider the impact of this experience. The Lord calls you by name and tells you your sins are forgiven. Although I have had some great examples to follow, such as my Uncle Joseph, and my father Jacob and I have the writings of these men and my grandfather Lehi, Nephi as well as the ancient prophets in the plates of brass, nothing can compare to the sure knowledge that the Lord knows me personally, He knows my weaknesses, all my sins, all my doubts and then He calls me by name and pronounces me forgiven. You cannot even imagine how this changed my life.
I want to tell you more about this experience in a future post but for now, please consider this a charge from me for you to seek an experience similar to mine. The sure knowledge that the Lord knows me now means everything to me.
