Before I continue with the teachings of Alma as he completes his work here in Zarahemla, I wish to talk about a man who’s life represents the ideal of faithful courage. A man I knew and loved and who was loved by all, and I mean ALL, (with the exception of the followers of Satan.
Nine years ago Gideon was viscously murdered. As Gideon withstood the false teachings of the Anti-Christ Nehor with the ‘words of God’, Nehor got angry, of course he would, there are only two response options to the word of God; humility and repentance, or pride and anger. Of course there are those who choose to cling to ignorance and ambivalence. Ambivalence was not Nehor’s response. Nehor drew the sword and attacked Gideon. If you recall, this is the same Gideon that challenged King Noah up in the Land of Nephi those 60 plus years ago, before our people were delivered from bondage and brought here to Zarahemla. He was no match physically for an angry, hateful Nehor. Gideon was, is and will certainly always be an example of Christlike courage and fearless dedication to God’s will. So, what brings me to write this particular post? Alma finished his preaching here in Zarahemla and is on his way to Gideon. We named a land, a valley and a city after Gideon.
Gideon; was he who was an instrument in the hands of God in delivering the people of Limhi out of bondage.
