Sam can be so much like Nephi it about makes me sick. Build a ship he writes! Nephi is a fool to even think he can build a ship and then to think with it we could cross these waters. First, why should we waste our time and energy trying to build a ship which we know we can’t build. Every time Nephi gets some foolish idea he claims it is from the Lord, which of course it is not.
We made it very clear how impossible a task this would be, it looks like for once he might be giving in to reality. This makes us a little more hopeful. We told him we knew he couldn’t construct a ship, that he was too lacking in judgement and so there was no way he could accomplish such a great work.
Nephi is so much like our father, he is led away by the foolish imaginations of his heart. We have been led out of the land of Jerusalem, we’ve wandered in the wilderness for 8 years, our women have toiled, given birth to children and have suffered almost to death. In fact it would have been better if they had died in Jerusalem than to have suffered in the wilderness so many years.
Had we stayed behind, instead of all this suffering, we could have been enjoying our possessions in the land of our inheritance and we would have been happy. The people in Jerusalem were a righteous people and they kept the statutes and judgments of God and they kept the law of Moses. They were righteous, it was just our foolish father that judged them so harshly. We were so stupid to listen to our father and leave in the first place. Nephi is just like him. As the older brothers, believe me, we have pointed all this out to Nephi.
