My participation in the conversion of our household is a miracle. Regardless of my feelings toward our enemies, my concerns for my husband, King Lamoni deepened once I learned the Nephite Ammon was more powerful than my husband’s army. He could not be slain, I was told. My servants told me of the power he showed at the Waters of Sebus protecting my sheep. Following the great discourse on the Great Spirit, my husband fell to the ground. As days passed, my servants who were present told me they were taught about the Creation of the World, the fall of man, and the coming of Christ.
Days passed. They did not know what happened. Only that my husband began pleading with the Lord to have mercy on him and his people. I could not believe that a Nephite could influence my powerful husband, the very King of this people to beg for mercy. It was inconceivable. Yet, I was hesitant to accept that he was dead. Why would the Nephite kill my husband? And how did he do it? Was he a sorcerer? I relented to pressure to invite the Nephite to confirm my husband was still alive, I so hoped he was just sleeping. Ammon woke my husband who began immediately to talk of his mighty conversion. He claimed to have seen his Redeemer and bore testimony that Christ would redeem all mankind. I wondered who this Christ could be. Was He the Great Spirit?
He took my hand and together with Ammon and my servants, we all fell under the power of God. We sunk down to the earth. Once we arose, I testified of Jesus bearing witness that He lives and He will redeem all mankind. The great veil of darkness was lifted from our minds. Our joy is full. Our hearts are changed. We have no more disposition to do evil. I praised my Lord and eagerly went into the waters of baptism. As queen of this people, I serve them and my Lord with a new determination to seek righteousness.
Now that my husband is given complete power and control over these people, no longer being subject to his father King Laman. Our kingdom enjoys more liberty and religious freedom. Yet, all our people have not chosen to believe. Many of the unbelievers have taken their religious freedom to deny the Christ. Sadly, some are rising up against the believers. The believers made a covenant to bury their weapons of death and refuse to take up arms against their fellow Lamanites. I fear liberty is at risk. Freedom can only be maintained by serving God. When others do not serve God, I fear war is the result.
