Have you ever been so distraught that when you went to God in prayer, it was if you were crying and pleading with your parents when you were a child? That is how I have become. My brothers have become so angry with me, I go to my Lord and present myself helpless yet hopeful at His feet.
It wasn’t until after countless prayers and my brothers’ anger increasing to the point they sought to take my life, that I received a warning from the Lord. My brothers complained I was trying to rule over them and I was the cause of their trials. They figured with me dead, the commandments of the Lord would not afflict them any more. Since they were the oldest, they considered themselves to be the rulers of the people. So naturally, and I won’t go into all the details of their murmurings, I simply had to be done away with.
The Lord in His great mercy warned me to take all those that would and depart into the wilderness. So I took my family, Zoram and his family, Sam and his family, Jacob, Joseph and my sisters and everybody else that would. All those who went with us believed in the warnings and the revelations of God and so they followed the teachings He commanded me to teach.
We took our tents and everything we could and journeyed many days into the wilderness. It certainly wasn’t years like we traveled back in the old world and the country was certainly more plentiful here but still we were grateful to finally settle and pitch our tents.
At the encouragement of those making this journey, we called our new land Nephi and all those who were with me desired to call themselves the people of Nephi.
