It would be easy to give credit to my father for the great changes that took place following his great speech from the tower, if not for the fact the people – I mean all the people immediately gave credit to the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent.
Following the speech as King Benjamin was seeking to know if the people believed what he had taught – he received a resounding affirmation that because of the Spirit of the Lord and its witness to them, they indeed believed.
In testifying of the truthfulness of his words the people testified of the mighty change of heart wrought by the spirit – changed enough they had no more disposition to do evil but to do good continually. Wow. These were not a wicked people necessarily, but to watch the great change that can take place through faith and the infinite goodness is beyond my ability to express.
I participated in these manifestations of his Spirit, we had great views of that which is to come and we felt that if it were expedient, we could prophesy of all things. Because we are brought to such great knowledge, we rejoiced with such exceedingly great joy.
I think my father the king accomplished everything he wanted to and more. We were willing to enter into a covenant with our God to do his will, and to be obedient to his commandments in all things that he would command us, all the remainder of our days, that we would not bring upon ourselves that never–ending torment spoken of by an angel.
My father continued, “because of the covenant which you have made you will be called the children of Christ, His sons, and His daughters; for behold, this day He has spiritually begotten you; for you say that your hearts are changed through faith on His name; therefore, you are born of Him and have become His sons and His daughters.”
This is a remarkable promise. As we make and keep these covenants and take upon us the name of Christ we are promised to be found on His right hand. As we do we will remember His name and recognize His voice. As we serve Him, we become acquainted with Him and we become familiar with His spirit which will guide and direct our lives.
In conclusion of this part of my father’s speech he made a promise which I think will be my life-long quest, he said,
“Be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you His, that you may be brought to heaven, that you may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of Him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all.”
