Post by Ammon – Son of King Mosiah, brother of Omnor, Aaron, Himni
Astonishment seems to be a word often used as we share our experiences in this blog. Here’s another time I wish I had a better word. It’s been fourteen years since my last entry, and if you can look back that far, I talked about our call to repentance. My brothers and I have many times talked about that singular experience when an angel struck us down for our rebellion against our parents, the church, and our God.
My brothers and I, along with our fellow missionaries concluded our mission among the Lamanites and headed back toward Zarahemla. Alma was journeying from Gideon toward Manti. What a reunion. There on the road, we met. It wasn’t a chance meeting in any way.
There on the road, we embraced, tears of joy tumbled. Is there a better way to say rejoice exceedingly? Those many years ago, our hearts changed. We refused our father’s and our people’s claim to serve as their leaders. After seeking approval from the Lord, our father, King Mosiah received revelation that our sought-after mission to the Lamanites would bear fruit. So, we along with several companions labored among the Lamanites these fourteen years.
Now, we reunite with our brother Alma on the road. Our hearts are about to burst with joy. We are still brethren in the Lord. Each of us in our journeys has grown in knowledge of the truth. We’ve searched the scriptures diligently so that we might know the word of God. We’ve given ourselves to much fasting and prayer that we might have the spirit of revelation. That is the only way we could teach with the power and authority of God. (I do admit from time to time that fasting was not our choice. We never expected our reception by the Lamanites to be a smooth and comfortable experience. But we went without from time to time.)
But as our father said, our mission among the Lamanites would bear fruit, it did. The Lord in His mercy provided considerable success in bringing many to the knowledge of the truth; by the power of our words, many have been brought to the altar of God, to call on His name and confess their sins before him.
Well, now these fourteen years later, Alma insists I bring this record up to date. He and others posted about the events here in and around Zarahemla, so now I’ll back up and write about our experience in the land of Nephi – Lamanite country.
