With the people of Jerusalem trying to kill my father, the Lord said to him in a dream: “Blessed art thou Lehi, because of the things which thou hast done; and because thou hast been faithful and declared unto this people the things which I commanded thee, behold, they seek to take away thy life.” After the Lord commended my father for his obedience, He commanded him to take all of us and escape into the wilderness.
This was not an easy command. Consider what is expected when your father is told to take his family and escape into a wilderness. This was not a request to go on a mission to a new city, or a to move your children to a new school. This was flee or die.
Though it was hard for our family, we had to take this seriously. An associate of my father, Urijah, had been commanded to prophesy against the city of Jerusalem and surrounding areas as well. Urijah prophesied in the name of the Lord, he was the son of Shemaiah. His prophesies were right in line with those of my father and of the prophet Jeremiah. Yet, when King Jehoiakim and his perversion of followers heard it, they sought to silence him by death. In fear, Urijah fled to Egypt. Jehoiakim sent his men to Egypt and brought Urijah back to Jerusalem and when he was brought before the king, Jehoikim killed him with the sword. You can actually read about his death and burial (if you could call it that) in a record kept that carries the name of the prophet Jeremiah chapter 26 vs. 20-23.
