It seems the children of Israel and their experience in the wilderness, is being replayed right before my eyes with my brothers and the sons of Ishmael. Even with a heavy heart I can’t refrain from reminding my brothers of Moses’ experience with the exodus from Egypt.
First, the children of Israel were in bondage in Egypt. If they had not hearkened to the words of God, and had Moses not been commanded by the Lord to lead them out, they would have never been brought out of bondage. Under this bondage they were laden with very serious tasks. Only the Lord could deliver them out of this grievous condition. And He did.
Moses was commanded to do this great work. By his word the waters of the Red Sea were divided so the children of Israel could pass by on dry ground. When the Egyptians, who were the armies of Pharaoh, tried to pursue, they were drowned in the Red Sea. The same Red Sea we have been following.
Just as the Lord has made our meat sweet without cooking, the Lord fed the children of Israel with manna in the wilderness. In fact, it is the same wilderness that we have been wandering in. How close these two stories parallel.
When they were thirsty, Moses used the power of God to smite a rock to provide water. We have the Liahona, the curious ball given us by God, directing us to wild game and rivers and eventually to this land Bountiful.
Our women have been made strong and the Lord has gone before us just as He did with the children of Israel, leading by day and giving light by night and doing whatever it takes to keep us moving and alive. Yet, my brothers, just like the children of Israel, have hardened their hearts and blinded their minds, and as the children of Israel reviled against Moses and the true and living God, my brothers have reviled against my father and the true and living God.
He has yet to destroy us as He did from time to time to the children of Israel, yet there is not anything done save it were by His word. I wonder how many times this same story has been played out by God’s children somewhere as some time. How merciful is the Lord our God, to put up with such rebellious children.
