Post by Helem,
It worked. Gideon’s plan worked. We are back in Zarahemla.
Just as Gideon had proposed, he took the tribute of wine to the Lamanites along with an extra supply as a present, and the Lamanite guards drank and drank freely. When we passed by them on our way out the back pass, the Lamanite guards were completely passed out. We traveled around the lands of the Lamanites and took our course toward Zarahemla. Our people took everything they could and we traveled many days through the wilderness until we arrived in Zarahemla.
It was a joyous reunion. As the people of Lemhi joined with Mosiah’s people they gladly became his subjects. We were received by King Mosiah with joy. The records that had been found by the people of Lemhi when Lemhi had sent a scouting party to find Zarahemla, were also given to King Mosiah for translation.
We knew once the Lamanites awoke and found we had escaped, we were going to be hunted. We kept an eye out and learned that though the armies were sent to pursue us, after two days they lost our tracks and were lost in the wilderness. How this large group with flocks and herds could avoid leaving a very easy to follow trail is one more of Heavenly Father’s wondrous works.
This will probably be my last post, since I was only assigned to report on our journey as the rescue party guest-author. Please don’t confuse me with the person to take over this posting assignment. We are not related but his name is also Helam. Note his name is spelled with an “am” not the “em.”
If you remember, one of Noah’s wicked priests by the name of Alma, believed Abinadi’s preaching and had gathered quite a following to hear the words taught by Abinadi. Well, it just so happens that Alma and his people have also just been reunited with us here in Zarahemla. I have asked Helam, one of Alma’s first converts to take over this narration and share their adventures.
King Mosiah will be gathering us all together to share our stories of exile, bondage and deliverance. So I will let Helam share with you the story of Alma and his people from the time they fled from King Noah’s army into the wilderness.
