Post by Amaleki,
I am writing this post from our home in the city of Zarahemla. Through King Benjamin’s leadership the Lamanites have been driven out of the land and we are experiencing for this short time, a period of peace. Certainly a greater record is kept with more details of our history, but I would share with you some of what I have seen in my life.
King Benjamin’s father Mosiah was the king of the Nephites up in the land of Nephi – the land of our first inheritance. He was a great and wonderful leader – guided daily by the Spirit of the Lord. The Lord warned Mosiah that he should gather as many as would hearken to the voice of the Lord and depart out of the land and go into the wilderness. All of those who would listen and obey, joined with Mosiah and fled with him into the wilderness and were led through preachings and prophesyings and daily admonishments by the word of God. This group was led by the power of the arm of God through the wilderness until they came down here to the land of Zarahemla where we made our home. I am grateful my family hearkened to the Lord and followed King Mosiah to Zarahemla.
The city of Zarahemla was a city established by the people of Zarahemla. When Mosiah and his people discovered the city of Zarahemla and the people that inhabited the city, there was great rejoicing. One of the causes of this rejoicing was the fact that Mosiah brought with him the plates of brass which contained the record of the Jews. Recently we have not said much about the plates of brass in this blog, but obviously these plates were being cared for by the kings.
We learned the people of Zarahemla came out of Jerusalem at the time of Zedekiah, king of Judah, when he was carried away captive into Babylon. If you have followed this blog much, you know that was about the time when our fathers, Lehi and Nephi fled from Jerusalem over 400 years ago. They also journeyed in the wilderness and were brought to this land across the great waters by the hand of the Lord to this land where Mosiah discovered them. Just like my people they had become exceedingly numerous and they have had serious contentions that brought on war causing many to fall by the sword from time to time. Since they brought no records with them, their language had become corrupted, and nobody could understand them. After 400 years without a written record and the blessing of a record such as the plates of brass they even denied the being of their creator.
One of the first things Mosiah did was to cause that they should be taught in our language. Once that was working and we were able to communicate, their leader Zarahemla gave a genealogy of his fathers, according to his memory; and they are written, but I won’t share it in this blog. But if you think about it, if nothing more, at least the last several authors in this blog have kept up the genealogy, which is more than the people of Zarahemla have done.
Now the people of Mosiah and the people of Zarahemla united together and we became one people and Mosiah was appointed to be our king.
So, that is how we came to be here in Zarahemla.
