As I mentioned earlier, there were many prophets sent to our people to teach and encourage and call them to repentance. Following my experience which I described as my wrestle with the Lord, I joined these many prophets and I went among our people, the people of Nephi and I too prophesied of things to come and I testified of the things which I had heard and seen. We kept trying to restore the Lamanites to the true faith of God, but to no avail. Firsthand, I saw wars between these two people, the Lamanites and the Nephites. Lives shattered by the evil of hatred.
My heart breaks for those who refuse to enjoy the blessings of the words of God which will cause a soul to rejoice, words like “”thy sins are forgiven thee,” “thou shalt be blessed,” “because of thy faith in Christ,” and “thy faith hath made thee whole.” After I, had heard these words, my faith began to be unshaken in the Lord. I now see how my father Jacob could be unshaken by the words of Sherem or any other anti-Christ. And how Nephi could be so firm in his testimony before his rebellious brothers Laman and Lemuel. It takes hard work to have your faith become strong. Humility, meekness and the willingness to leave the enticings of the world behind is difficult, it may take you a lifetime, but I testify of its worth.
I now know what Nephi and Jacob were talking about when they commented they were beginning to be old, because I now have begun to be old. A hundred and seventy nine years have passed away from the time that my Grandfather Lehi left Jerusalem. All you have to do is a little calculating and you can see Jacob was really old when he died and I too am pretty old. I see that I must soon go down to my grave, but before I die, because I have been wrought upon by the power of God, I am compelled to preach and prophesy to this people, and declare the word according to the truth which is in Christ until my last breath. I have declared it in all my days, and have rejoiced in it above that of the world.
I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer; for I know that in Him I shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand before Him; then will I see His face with pleasure, and He will say to me: “Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father.” May it be so with you as well, Amen.
